Creating 3D mosaic artforms adds a degree of complexity to any project. Various methods are available , employing a variety of substrates and dependent on size, shape, location and portability of the envisaged form. My investigations are still in the elementary stage but I am excited that some 3D techniques seem to provide greater opportunities for creativity and the artist isnt only 'embellishing' an existing substrate but is actually creating the substrate according to vision, with unlimited possibilities.
Unsure as to where this investigation will lead I will simply publish any discoveries in no definitive order. I love the serendipitous opportunities provided by online exploration.
Technique 1. My friend and colleague Gabby alerted me to a product called Pal Tiya which can be used in unison with other products e.g foil, cardboard, glass etc. to create a 3D substrate for mosaic applications. UK Mosaic artist Alison Turner has some helpful information on her website including the following video which demonstrates the mixing process.
